Payday 3 will receive one “relatively soon”. offline mode. This is one of the moves to counteract the problems of the game and the limited success of the shooter.
The offline mode will be implemented in two different phases. There first phase is a local stand-alone solo mode that players will be able to access without having to resort to matchmaking. Internet connections will still be required to progress and obtain rewards.
There second phase will eliminate the need for a constant internet connection, although players will still need to connect “intermittently” to update progression. More details on this aspect will be revealed in the future.
The cooperative problem
As for the game in cooperative, Starbreeze admits that Payday 3's matchmaking isn't enough. Not only will it rebuild matchmaking “into a much more robust system,” but new social and co-op features are also planned for 2024. Meanwhile, Quick Match functionality will be added to support the current system.
The current progression system Challenge-based will be removed and replaced with progression tied to completing heists. For this reason, all heist payout values will be reviewed. Challenges, however, won't disappear completely – they will instead give cosmetic rewards.
These are the more immediate improvements that the Payday 3 team wants to complete by summer:
- Quickplay v1
- Renaming the loadout
- Regular distribution of new small content
- Controller improvements
- Possibility to vote on the elimination of players
- Rotating stealth modifiers
- “Not ready” button
- “Play again” function
- Function to join players in a Party after the match
- Daily activities with rewards
- Mask seller with weekly rotating inventory
- Communication Wheel Improvements v1
