Best Italian and best Ducati rider: Enea Bastianini held the flag high today on the first day of MotoGP testing at Sepang in Malaysia. The world champion rider in Moto2 in 2020 stopped the clock on 1’58 ″ 638 at 167 thousandths from the best performance signed by Aleix Espargarò, who had already been able to lap on the Kuala Lumpur track during the shakedown reserved for debuts and houses who can exploit the concessions (Aprilia is the only one that is part of it).
“I found the same sensations as in Jerez, the Ducati GP-21 is a bike that goes everywhere – declared the Gresini team rider – A good lap came straight away in terms of time, but then I didn’t focus on the single lap. Tomorrow instead I’ll do two or three time attacks because I need to work on qualifying, I have to improve in that aspect because it penalized me a lot last season. The Ducati GP-21 is very stable, it has improved practically everywhere compared to the GP-19 I was used to. Being so high in the standings without fitting new tires or pushing particularly hard is a good sign, but they are only tests. The factory Ducatis are a bit late because they have a completely new bike that needs to be tuned. We, on the other hand, were able to take advantage of an already configured base which proved to be effective also in Malaysia ”.
