Ten one person has been killed in Mexico after unidentified men opened fire in a bar on Wednesday, officials said, Reuters news agency by.
“It looks like it was a direct attack,” said a police official from the city of Tarimoro in Guanajuato state.
The area has been at the center of fierce territorial battles between rival drug gangs in recent years. Serious cases of violence are common.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that all 10 victims of Wednesday’s attack were men and that no one had yet been arrested in connection with the incident.
A government official in Guanajuato said nine of the men died at the scene and a tenth died of their injuries at the hospital.
A state governor Diego Sinhue Rodriguezwho called the incident a “cowardly attack,” tweeted his condolences to the victims’ families, according to Reuters.
Rodriguez did not provide details of the attack.
The federal security ministry said earlier this week that Guanajuato has had the most murders of any Mexican state this year. 2,115 victims were recorded in the state between January and August.
President of Mexico Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador told a press conference on Thursday morning that 20 murders had been registered in Guanajuato on Wednesday alone.
