George Washington University, in the USA, decided to take disciplinary action this week against radical students who participated in occupations of its spaces during protests against Israel.
According to information from the National Review, last Thursday (25), radical students decided to occupy the institution's courtyard during a protest against Israel. The university claims to have recorded no disturbances at the site, but says it requested police support from Washington to remove the protesters' tents that were set up at the site.
With the request not being met by the local police, the notification process about the suspension of students who were participating in the act began this Friday (26).
“This camp [tendas montadas na instituição durante os protestos] violated several university policies, including the unauthorized use of reserved space,” George Washington said in a statement Friday.
The institution also stated that the protests included the participation of individuals who do not study there and that there were posters with anti-Semitic statements in the place.
Radical students at the educational institution claim to have started the protest and occupation in response to George Washington's financial ties with companies doing business in Israel and US support for the Israeli offensive in Gaza, currently underway against the terrorist group Hamas. They accuse Israel of committing a “genocide” in the Palestinian enclave.”
As reported by the National Review, During the protest and occupation at George Washington, radical students were calling for a new “intifada,” a Palestinian rebellion.
“We don’t want two states”, they said, denying one of the solutions advocated, including by the USA, for the conflict in the Middle East.
Several US universities have been occupied since last week by radical students protesting the Israeli offensive in Gaza and American support for Israel.
Columbia University in New York was the epicenter of these protests. During the events carried out at that institution, several students even harassed Jews and chanted pro-Hamas.
