The Mauritanian Constitutional Council published a decision according to which it temporarily approved 7 candidates to compete in the presidential elections scheduled for next June 29, including the current president, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.
The Constitutional Council revealed, in a statement, that it concluded a meeting on Thursday evening devoted to reviewing the candidates’ files, after the end of the legal deadline allocated for receiving nomination files.
He explained that he approved 7 candidates, namely the current president, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, Mohamed Al-Amine Al-Murtaji Al-Wafi, Hammadi Sidi Al-Mukhtar, the candidate Otoma Soumare, Ba Mamadou Bockarie, Al-Eid Mohamed Mubarak, and Biram Al-Dah Abidi.
He stressed in his decision that every candidate has the right to object to the temporary list within the next 48 hours, which begins from the time of the announcement of the list in which the name of former President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz was absent, as the head of the Front for Change Party “under establishment”, Sayyedna Aali Ould Mohamed Khouna, had been elected. It was announced Thursday that the former president had submitted his file to the Constitutional Council, expecting it to be rejected.
