Some ‘missed’ shots by Red Bull
Red Bull has won seven Drivers’ World Championships so far, four with Sebastian Vettel and three with Max Verstappen. Mark Webber, Daniel Ricciardo and Sergio Perez have also won at least one GP in F1 at the wheel of a car from the Milton Keynes team. Podcast guest The Inside Line, Helmut Marko he was asked whether there have been any ‘missed’ moves on the driver market so far by Red Bull, who are used to drawing from their own talent pool.
Marko revealed some interesting background information, especially the one related to Landon Norris. “In 2018 we were in advanced negotiations with Lando Norris and had a contract ready for him to race for Toro Rosso in 2019 – explained the Austrian manager – McLaren, however, discovered the negotiations and enforced a clause that ended the negotiations.”
Ten years earlier, when Red Bull had yet to become a top team, an excellent refusal arrived: “We set up a negotiation with Fernando Alonso in 2008 but he didn’t take us seriously – added Marko – anyway we are proud of the two world champions (Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen) that we had in F1″.
