At the same time, the US expressed willingness to impose sanctions against countries that support the use of the Russian NSPK system and the Mir national payment system outside the Russian Federation. Since he regards such actions as an attempt to circumvent anti-Russian sanctions.
Experts interviewed “Kommersant” believe that this can significantly slow down the expansion of the geography of accepting Mir cards, as well as harm cooperation with those countries where they are already accepted.
On Sept. 15, the Financial Times reported, citing unnamed sources, that the United States and the European Union (EU) may take action against third parties and entities that help Russians make payments on export deals or facilitate imports of industrial and defense products that fall under Western sanctions. .
The head of the Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, said on September 8 that the Central Bank of the Russian Federation would actively promote the possibility of cross-border settlements using the digital ruble.
According to her, it will be a model that can interface with other monetary systems. However, for its application, as in SPFS (financial messaging system), and when using the Mir card, the desire and readiness of the other party will be needed.
On August 21, it became known that India and Russia may soon recognize each other’s payment systems, we are talking about the Mir and RuPay systems. Mutual acceptance of RuPay and Mir cards will make it possible to make payments in both countries without any problems.
Earlier, on August 20, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation said that Russia was negotiating the use of the domestic Mir payment card with a number of countries, including India, Azerbaijan, China and Egypt.
Prior to that, in July, the countries where you can pay with Mir cards were named. Along with Turkey, the list includes Vietnam, Armenia, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
