During his supervision of the cabinet meeting, Saeed said: “Today or tomorrow, a number of measures will be announced to return to the sovereignty of the people.”
He added that “constitutions are created and they are not eternal,” noting that “liberties are guaranteed, and whoever thinks that he is free from any accountability is wrong.”
The Tunisian president added: “We will hold accountable according to the law without wronging anyone… The judiciary must be on a date with history in order to purify the country.”
Tunisian experts and politicians had expected the president to announce a package of new measures in the country in conjunction with the celebration of the anniversary of the January revolution on December 17, after changing its date from January 14.
Well-informed Tunisian sources who spoke to “Sky News Arabia” suggested that the president would announce new decisions related to amending the constitution and announcing a supreme body to draw up a new constitution from senior judges, and that the decisions would also include measures related to the political situation in the country and the dissolution of parliament frozen since last July 25.
