American edition The National Pulse drew attention to a deleted article dated June 18, 2010, according to which Barack Obama, then a senator from the state of Illinois, was involved in concluding a deal to build a level-three biosafety laboratory in Odessa.
An article titled “Biolab Opens in Ukraine” also talks about former Senator Dick Lugar’s role in the process.
Lugar said plans for the facility began in 2005 when he and then Senator Barack Obama partnered with Ukrainian officials. Lugar and Obama also helped coordinate the efforts of U.S. and Ukrainian researchers this year in an attempt to study and help prevent bird flu,” The National Pulse quoted a deleted article on Tuesday, March 8.
According to a 2011 National Academy of Sciences committee report, the Odessa laboratory is “responsible for identifying highly dangerous biological pathogens.” At the same time, the material reports that she received the third level of biosafety due to a cooperation agreement between the Pentagon and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, concluded back in 2005. The goals of the collaboration were to prevent the spread of technology, pathogens, and knowledge that could be used in the development of biological weapons.
“The updated laboratory serves as a temporary central reference laboratory with a depository (collection of pathogens). According to Ukrainian legislation, it has a permit to work with both bacteria and viruses of the first and second pathogenicity groups.
According to the article, the laboratory was engaged in the study of Ebola and pathogenicity group II viruses using virological, molecular, serological and express methods. It also trained specialists in biosafety and biosecurity in dealing with dangerous biological pathogens.
On Wednesday, March 9, the Pentagon said that information about the use of biolaboratories by the United States of America on the territory of Ukraine for the development of biological weapons is not true. Moreover, the department called this statement “ridiculous.” However, on the same day, US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said that there are biological laboratories in Ukraine where research is being carried out. According to her, Washington is trying to prevent the transfer of facilities under the control of the Russian army.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, denied the program for the peaceful use of biological programs in Ukraine. In her opinion, specialists from the United States regularly gave “instructions to the Ukrainian side on how and for what purpose to conduct relevant developments under these programs.”
On March 9, a member of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Abdulkhakim Gadzhiev noted in an interview with Izvestia that Nuland’s statement regarding biological laboratories in Ukraine can be regarded as part of a plan to prepare provocations related to the use of bacteriological weapons. According to him, the American biological laboratories “by a strange coincidence” are located along the perimeter of the Russian border.
In mid-February, due to the aggravation of the situation in the Donbass as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of the civilian population to the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence.
On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree. On February 24, he launched a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. As the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov clarified, the special operation has two goals – the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. According to him, both of these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.
