The United Auto Workers (UAW) union announced that it has reached a last-minute provisional agreement with truck and bus manufacturer Daimler Truck, avoiding a possible strike by more than 7,000 workers. The agreement with the German company was signed on Friday night, the 26th, shortly before the expiration of the previous contract, enacted six years earlier. The measure covers workers in factories in North Carolina, in the United States, as well as distribution centers in Atlanta and Memphis, Tennessee.
In an online speech, UAW President Shawn Fain said the new contract includes pay increases of more than 25% over the next four years, including a 10% increase upon ratification of the agreement. Fain said the agreement also includes salary levels at the company, as well as cost-of-living and profit-sharing adjustments. Union members still need to approve the agreement.
