A difficult 2024 promises to be in terms of bills for Italians. Assiumthe utility managers association, together with Non-Profit Consumerism they estimate that the drop in gas and electricity prices will have a relatively significant impact on final expenditure, which will depend greatly on the volatility of offers, transport costs, system charges and the increase in VAT from 5 to 22%. Furthermore, from this year the protected marketrespectively January 10th for gas and July 1st for electric.

The report of Assium-Consumerism estimates that in 2024 a typical family will spend a minimum of 1,750 euros for electricity and gas supply. We're talking about a increase of 650 euros compared to 2020. However, the expenditure is lower than in 2022, the year in which the energy crisis reached its peak, bringing the maximum expenditure up to 6,500 euros per year. In the same period, however, some families saved thanks to the 24-month tariff freeze.

“Electricity, gas, water and telephones account for a third of the family budget. With the end of protection, citizens are forced to do it alone in a jungle of calls and visits to the homes of people who offer amazing magic”, states the president of Consumerismo , Louis Gabriele.

In December the bills of around 6 million Italians will be -6.7% for gas compared to November. According to the Regulatory Authority, the update of the monthly gas price will only concern customers of Vulnerability protection service (over 75) with social bonus and disabled people for a total of 2.5 million families.
