Everything is becoming more expensive, especially energy, but BMW will help you with your energy problem.
But then you have to have a BMW, that makes sense. The car manufacturer has conducted a trial with Eneco eMobility. It works like this: you use your car as a battery to power your house. It’s that simple and (hopefully) it can be. If it works optimally, this can save you up to 850 euros per year. Tell me what your monthly energy bill is without government help.
BMW and your energy problem
The government lends a helping hand to temper the costs of energy. Many Dutch people get into financial problems if nothing is done about it. BMW in any case along and comes with bi-directional charging at home. Let’s not forget that it is also good for the climate.
With bi-directional charging, you can charge a car as well as supply power back. This can be done on the electricity grid, but also on your house. This allows you to turn on the oven again without any worries. BMW is currently testing this and it is part of a international project. Not all BMWs can participate, in this test we are talking about an i3. This car has been modified and Eneco supplied the charging station. According to BMW, the well-known problem of loss of efficiency has turned out to be minimal. Energy is always lost during these types of charging techniques. However, this test showed that there is an average efficiency of above the average of 90%. BMW does not talk about how much it really is.
Results
The tests have been successful. The motorist was able to use the battery from the BMW as an energy buffer. It turned out that the i3 with a capacity of 37.9 kWh could provide a house with energy for two days. An average consumption of 11 kWh per day is assumed here. A small ride is also possible, but not much. If you also fill your battery during the cheaper hours (at night), you can save 850 euros per year. The question is whether this is actually feasible in practice.
Oh yes, we also help the climate with this. But then you have to charge as green as possible, for example with solar panels. We are not talking about the loss and replacement of batteries for the sake of convenience.
