Timur Bulatov is an avid whistleblower and now wonders who tipped him off about the public smearing of the Russian armed forces.
Homosexualsa Russian Putinist who has enthusiastically denounced pacifists and “unconventionalism” for years Timur Bulatov has instead been prosecuted himself, says the Telegram news channel Ostorozhno novosti. The news agency Reuters and The New York Times.
Bulatov is accused of publicly slandering the Russian army, which he himself greatly wonders about. He has supported the President of Russia for years Vladimir Putinthe attack on Ukraine and the occupation of territories and “traditional values”.
“How could I, because of which eight people are in prison in St. Petersburg and more than 20 in the whole of Russia, slander [armeijaa]”, Bulatov wonders.
A week ago, Bulatov received a summons for questioning, which he allegedly ignored. He was subsequently charged, authorities have confirmed.
Bulatov himself guesses that he has been reported “on false grounds” by some entity that he has tried to report.
A first-timer can be fined around 500 euros for publicly defaming the army. If repeated, it can lead to a prison sentence.
Bulatov for example, pictures of scantily clad people on social media have been sufficient for self-reporting, if a church looms in the background.
He also boasts that, according to his words, he has managed to get the sacks of about sixty teachers who, according to him, are homosexuals or support the rights of sexual minorities.
Already a decade ago a woman who taught at a St. Petersburg school for the mentally disabled lost her job based on Bulatov’s complaint. The reason for the dismissal was “immoral behavior”, even though the teacher had not manifested homosexuality in his work.
For years, Bulatov has also disrupted events focused on the rights of sexual minorities.
Homosexuality is not illegal in Russia, but sexual minorities have been persecuted for more than ten years under the guise of the law prohibiting “gay propaganda”.
