The new series of hbo max “La Casa del Dragon” premiered its first chapter this Sunday, and took us back to the “Game of thrones” universe. Among the various names of the houses, kings, heirs and lineages that spread around Westeros, in this Spin-off we will explore the family of the mother of dragons: the Targaryen House and its family tree, which is extremely wide and tangled up.
In this note, we make a brief review of the dynasty known by the motto “Fire and blood”, based on information from the books of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” saga, written by George RR Martin, and the possible outcomes What will we see in the Game of Thrones prequel?
Viserys I and his sons
We will start from Baelon and Alyssa, who had three children: Aegon I (deceased), Demon Y Viserys I. The latter is the king of Westeros in the first chapter of the “House of the dragon” series.
First marriage: during the reign of Viserys Iwas married to Aemma Arryn (deceased), with whom he had two children, Rhaenyra and Baelon (deceased). During the delivery of the second, and as shown in the show, both mother and baby die, leaving the king a widower.
Second matrimony: Viserys I subsequently had a second marriage to Alicent Hightower and again had 4 more children. But, in order not to get too confused, we will only highlight Aegon II Targaryens.
Daemon and Rhaenyra
Daemon Targaryen was married three times, his third wife being Rhaenyra Targaryen, who was also previously betrothed to Laenor Velaryon and fathered three sons who died in battle.
From this uncle-niece relationship, two important Targaryens were born for history: Aegon III Y Viserys II. The first of these fell in love with Jaehera, daughter of Aegon II.
Aegon II Targaryens
Son of Viserys I and Alicent Hightower, the kingdom was disputed in a key confrontation against his half-sister Rhaenyra, something that decided the future of the Targaryens in the expansion of Westeros.
When Aegon II finally won and reigned, he sentenced Rhaenyra to death and forced her son Aegon III to see how his mother died being devoured by a dragon.
Aegon III and Viserys II
Aegon III and Viserys II also had their respective marriages and children, who would later alternate the Iron Throne in a long succession.
Later, according to the customs of the Targaryens to maintain the purity of their lineage, there were several incestuous relationships and several heirs to the crown.
The Mad King and Rhaella
Much later, Aerys II Targaryen (better known as the Mad King), married Rhaella. As a result of this forced marriage, three children were born: rhaegar, Viserys III Y Daenerys Targaryen.
As seen in “Game of Thrones,” Daenerys killed her brother Viserys III by burning his head with liquid gold. She then began her journey to become queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
Likewise, Rhaegar married Elia Martell and raised three descendants. However, since he was never in love with her, he secretly married Lyanna Stark, with whom he fathered a baby named Aegon VIII Targaryens.
Daenerys and Jon Snow
Finally, toward the end of “Game of Thrones,” we discover that Aegon VII Targaryen is none other than Jon Snowwho ends up falling in love with his aunt Daenerys Targaryen.
In the last episode of the series, we see that Jon, understanding Daenerys’s corruption, kills her by stabbing her in the stomach.
Aegon VII Targaryen is expelled beyond the Wall along with the wildlings (also called the Free People), who remain alive, including Tormund.
What will happen to this last Targaryen? Jon Snow’s series, which has already been confirmed by George RR Martin, will show his future.
