Half of the non-smokers are passive smokers, and 48% smoke on the terraces. They are the main space where non-smokers are exposed to tobacco smoke.
This is the result of the latest study by the Spanish Society of Respiratory Pathologies, which also reveals that the highest percentage of smokers is among younger people. In fact, 24% of young people between 16 and 24 years old smoke tobacco, a figure that grows to one in three of those who consume other products, such as vaping devices.
These products are just as harmful as tobacco, especially among younger people, who are not aware of the danger they represent. This is stated by the pulmonologist and study coordinator, Inmaculada Gorordo, in statements on RAC1.

Researchers recall that passive smoking increases the risk of respiratory infections and lung cancer. Last week, the European Commission recommended improving protection against smoke in outdoor spaces, paying special attention to new products.
