Tensions between the ministers Lindner (FDP) and Habeck (Greens) threaten to become a burden for the traffic light coalition. It’s about a lot of money and about strengthening the profile of one’s own party. A commentary by Georg Anastasiadis.
Suddenly, people in the traffic light coalition are once again using the Sie and the uncharming open letters. The male friends Robert Habeck and Christian Lindner are in a relationship crisis. Even at the government retreat in Meseberg, it couldn’t be treated away. As well as: Lindner’s liberal ideal of freedom and Habeck’s green popular education claim are worlds apart. Since both voters have been running away, the ministers are no longer bothering to hide it.
The FDP and the Greens have a growing need to raise their profile
For a long time it looked as if only the FDP would have to pay the price for the “breakthrough coalition”, which was highly unpopular with its sympathizers. But after the looming loss of power in Berlin and the harsh applause in the mayoral elections in Frankfurt and Mainz, the faces of the Greens are getting longer and longer. After all, the eco-party thought it was on the way to becoming the dominant force in the big cities. Now the need for profile sharpening is growing in both parties.
Climate Minister Habeck has already made his big appearances: as a tireless traveler in matters of gas procurement, as the man who finally pushed through the nuclear end that Green voters had been longing for for generations. But even his most recent heating ban plan turned out to be such a non-starter that the minister has been trying to limit the damage ever since. Now Lindner’s hour has come. The Greens are demanding billions more, for example for basic child security and climate policy. This is likely to fail in large part due to the veto of the finance minister, who rejects higher debts as well as new taxes and rightly warns that the reality of war must also be reflected in new priorities in the budget. Have to settle, let the shock subside, of all people Olaf, the communication talent. The traffic light promises evil.
