According to Izvestia, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is being asked to protect Russians who bought imported goods from companies that decided to leave our market. Oleg Pavlov, head of the organization “Public Consumer Initiative”, deputy chairman of the public council under Rospotrebnadzor, addressed the head of the Cabinet.
In the letter, he clarifies that in the light of recent events related to Russia’s conduct of a special military operation in Ukraine, many foreign, primarily American, European and Japanese companies are making decisions to leave the Russian Federation.
“Such decisions not only undermine the credibility of such companies, but also significantly infringe on the rights and legitimate interests of Russian citizens,” the document, which is available to Izvestia, says.
Oleg Pavlov refers to the law “On the Protection of Consumer Rights” and asks the authorities to take a number of measures.
Thus, he proposes to initiate in relation to companies that have made or will decide to leave the Russian market, conducting checks to see if they have cash, product stocks and other assets necessary to fulfill obligations to Russian consumers.
In addition, it is proposed to seize this property, as well as encourage foreign companies to develop special programs for the fulfillment of their warranty obligations during the entire period prescribed by law.
