If you are a frequent user of GOG, the CD Projekt store, you should know about a change coming. The service will begin at delete save data in clouds larger than 200 MB. The start date of the procedure is August 31, 2024.
If you don’t want to risk losing anything, make sure you have the save files available locally and not only in the Cloud. Bear in mind that some video games are hugely over 200 MB, so don’t assume that all your saves are small.
Why will cloud save data be deleted?
GOG explains: “As the size and number of games increases, so does the demand for Cloud storage. These limits ensure that all players have access to sufficient, manageable space for their game progress and that associated costs are under control. By optimizing storage allocation, we want to continue to provide a reliable and easy-to-use platform for everyone.”
With regard to the procedurethe company indicates that “after August 31, 2024, we will begin to delete files from our Cloud Storage service. First of all, we will delete unnecessary files, i.e. those that have no relation to the game, but which ended up in the folder Cloud Save. Next, we will remove the game’s save files, starting with the oldest and stopping when the remaining files are within the allocation limit.”
