The Luftwaffe, the German air force began this Friday to participate in the transfer of patients in serious condition from intensive care units in hospitals in southern and eastern German states such as Bavaria, Saxony or Thuringia – overwhelmed by the influx of critically ill patients- to others in the north of the country such as Lower Saxony, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, where medical centers are less saturated. The flights are carried out with a medicalized aircraft of the Airbus A310 MedEvac type, considered a ‘flying ICU’ and with eight seats for patients in serious condition.
Germany again this Friday to register new records of infections, with 76,414 cases in 24 hours, and in the incidence of the coronavirus, in this case the nineteenth consecutive, with 438.2 infections per 100,000 inhabitants, reported the Robert Koch Institute (RKI ), responsible for coordinating the fight against the pandemic in this country.
The number of infections has risen 44% within a week, the institute noted. Deaths have also increased appreciably in the last day with the record of 357 deaths. A week ago there were 201.
The RKI had already reported on Thursday that the incidence is especially high and practically doubles that of adults among children aged 5 to 9 years with 829 cases and among those aged 10 to 14 years with 921 per 100,000 in a week, although the development of the infection is generally asymptomatic. Schoolchildren are the most tested in the population, since it is the norm in German schools and colleges to have them tested at least twice a week to avoid the uncontrolled spread of the virus in schools.
