The petrol stations freeze the two days of the strike, from 7pm on 24 January to 7am on 27 January 2023 after discussions with the Government. The announcement came from the initials Faib Confesercenti, Fegica Cisl and Figisc/Anisa Confcommercioafter the “clarification” that took place with the Premier Melons. The associations had called the strike against the transparency decree: “To put an end to this ‘wave of mud’ against a category of honest workers and try to restore the truth, the managers’ associations, together, have taken the decision to proclaim the state of agitation of the category, throughout the network”.

The petrol station strike throughout the Italian network was frozen. The protest had to begin Tuesday 24 January 2023 at 19.00 and finish on Friday 27 at 07.00. The managers reserve the right to confirm or not the strike: “currently frozen, albeit with the reserve for its suspension depending on the examination of the text of the decree once it has been issued”.
The decision was made after discussions with the Government, which in the meantime has updated the transparency decree expecting a cut of excise duties in the event that the price of fuel exceeds at least 2% of the value indicated in the Def (with a simultaneous increase in VAT collections).
Gas station workers strike January 2023, why?
The Italian petrol stations had called a strike January 2023 against the decision of the Meloni government which obliges distributors to display the national average price of fuels, alongside that actually practiced. Especially since they felt called into question as responsible for fuel increases.
The protest was lit until clarification with the Government. At the end of the meeting, the associations issued a joint statement:
“Appreciated the clarification received with the Government which restores an unequivocal truth: the managers have no responsibility for the increase in prices, nor for any alleged speculation mentioned. As far as petrol station organizations are concerned, the controversy ends here.
Now is the time to work seriously to restore efficiency and full legality to the network. Already in the next few days, the managers’ organizations will make themselves available to address the issues on the table and to identify instruments, including regulatory ones, useful for dealing with both the contingency and above all the perspective”.
