Help testified that Trump dismissed concerns that some of his supporters gathered for his fiery rhetoric outside the White House that day were carrying rifles, and asked security to stop checking attendance with magnetic detectors so the crowd would appear larger.
“They are not here to hurt me,” Cassidy Hutchinson, a top aide to then White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, quoted Trump as saying that morning.
Hutchinson reported that Secret Service officers insisted that he return to the White House and not join his supporters who stormed the Capitol building, where lawmakers were meeting to certify the victory of his opponent, Democratic President Joe Biden, according to “Reuters”.
Trump denied on social media that he tried to drive the presidential car by force.
“Her false story that I tried to force the White House car into the Capitol is disgusting and disingenuous,” Trump wrote on TruthSocial, his social media app.
