Really remarkable, the time recorded by the Ford Mustang Mach 1 on the Nurburgring circuit. The track test theater for the majority of car manufacturers has produced a new surprise, giving full brightness to the speed and handling qualities of the Ford. A car, for those who do not like ‘muscle cars’ and derivatives, which is often not considered on a par with European rivals given its weight and stylistic line. And instead, here is recorded, albeit not officially by the House or by a federation, the time of 7 minutes and 58.29 seconds: faster than a Bugatti EB 110 SS, on a par with the Porsche Boxster S 981.
The time was made by the professional driver Christian Gebhardt, enlisted by Sport Auto magazine to test the potential of the Mustang on the tortuous German track. To obtain the result, he fitted Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires and obviously exploited ideal climatic conditions as well as a free track. Ford did not beat the Alpine A110 S, BMW M5 F10, Renault Megane RS Trophy R and BMW M2 Competition, all of which would have fallen under the 7-minute and 57-second barrier. But in the meantime the ‘test’ went well beyond the rosiest expectations.
On the long straight just before the finish line, the Ford Mustang Mach 1 reached a speed of 268 kilometers per hour before giving its best under braking thanks also to the fundamental contribution of Brembo material. It is a car with 460 horsepower, 20-30 less than the American version of the 5-liter V8 engine. And it weighs (empty) over 1,750 kilos.
Recall that the official record at the Nurburgring for a production car it was signed by a Porsche 911 GT2 RS, led by Lars Kern in 6 minutes and 38 seconds.
