Football NOW: Fifa plans to allow players to leave Russia in the middle of the contract period but only temporarily

The players’ association Fifpro and the umbrella organization WLF of more than 40 competitions want the opportunity to leave to be permanent.

International Fifa plans to allow professional footballers in Russia to leave the country during the contract period, US newspaper The New York Times says. According to the magazine, Fifa will talk about it soon.

Fifa’s decision concerns about a hundred players. They can leave their Russian club and sign a new club – but only until June 30th.

The measure does not meet the requirement of the International Players’ Association’s umbrella organization (Fifpro) or the World Leagues Forum (WLF), the umbrella organization for more than 40 competitions, to allow players to leave Russia permanently.

“Foreign players can rightly feel that they no longer want to represent a Russian team. They should be able to terminate their contract immediately without sanctions and register without restriction with a new club under transfer rules, ”Fifpro and WLF wrote after Russia invaded Ukraine.

Mixed Fifa and the European Football Association Uefa have excluded Russian national and club teams from international competition. Russia has said it will appeal the decision.

Russia’s Krasnodar announced last week that it would allow foreign players and coaches to leave the club. Teemu Pukin former coach, starting passports from Norwich Daniel Farke left Krasnodar without the time to coach the Russian team.
