Fires | The car burned violently in Espoo

The Espoo rescue service cannot say where the fire started. The car burned to salvage condition was not an electric car.

Espoo A car caught fire in Saunalahti on Thursday evening before seven o'clock.

The notification to the emergency services was made by a bystander at 18:40.

The rescue service was there in seven minutes.

“When we got there, high flames rose from the car. We were able to extinguish the fire with water quickly,” says the fire supervisor of the rescue service of Länsi-Uusimaa Tatu Solin.

Fire was violent according to the fire chief. The windows of the car parked in the parking lot on the side of the road were broken by the force of the fire. No one was hurt.

“There was no danger to nearby buildings, cars or people from the situation,” says Solin.

According to the fire chief, it was a “normal, around 15,000 euro” car. He estimated the age of the car to be about 10 years. It wasn't an electric car.

According to him, it is difficult to assess the cause of the fire.

“The fire possibly started in the center console of the car, but the cause is not clear.”

The fire marshal according to that, car fires always happen “from time to time”. Vandalism is not suspected in the case.

Saunalahti's car burned to salvage condition. According to Solin, the owner procured a tow truck for the car “at the expense of the insurance company.”

The rescue service recovered the sewage from the site, so that potentially toxic substances would not end up in the sewer.
