Bringing back the names of historic models is becoming more and more a consolidated practice and after the choices made by Renault with the R5 and R4, here is also Fiat it could opt for the return of a series of denominations that have made the history of the brand. The range of the Italian brand is in fact destined to expand, with a strong push in the B segment and a project linked to Panda which will create a new line-up of different models, albeit united by the objective of democratizing electric mobility. Among these, there could also be a suggestion linked to one Fiat 126 electrica name linked to the collective imagination which, like Multipla and Punto, could be revitalized in a modern key.
Let me be clear, at the moment no official plan for the 126 has been detailed and likewise no forklifts or prototypes have been sighted that suggest an immediate return. The statements of Olivier Francois about the possibility of using names linked to the past of Fiat have sparked the imagination of enthusiasts, with several designers who have tried their hand at rendering these cars. The last is that of the Fiat 126 built by the architect Tommaso D’Amico. Also in this case it is evident that the inspiration is the Fiat Centoventi concept, the futuristic prototype that the Italian car manufacturer presented 3 years ago at the Geneva Motor Show. On the occasion, the modularity and the possibilities of customization of the car had fascinated the public and critics.
The Centoventi should now be dusted off precisely for act as a model for the new Panda range and so D’Amico started from the original car, applying the modern and futuristic lines of the concept to create a hypothetical Fiat 126, with a minimalist and essential style and LED optical signature to underline its futuristic spirit while maintaining a strong link with the past . The interior also confirms this setting, with a circular digital dashboard and a cantilevered display for the infotaiment system. The eventual debut of an electric Fiat 126 could allow the brand to remain in segment A with a strong presence on an emotional level. However, we will have to wait for the next few months to understand if the Turin car manufacturer is really willing to take such a step.
