It is not the first time that the brand of LEGO faces the science fiction saga par excellence, and this LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga seems to want to put the final point on the brick sauce series. Over the years, in fact, the franchise has expanded into the videogame world, touching more and more brands, even if most of the Disney mold such as those of Marvel or Incredible. However, although the titles of the series are fun and carefree, especially suitable for an audience of children, it is evident that this game in particular has a bit bigger ambitions, so much so that the general project is well more full-bodied than you can imagine.
But let’s get the elephant out of the room right away, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a game that makes its accessibility its main weapon, and if you keep in mind the main target of the game you will understand that it must necessarily be suitable for everyone. The game will be available starting April 5th on all platforms, and we recently got our hands on preview. We spent about a couple of hours with the game and, waiting for our final judgment, we have to say that we had a lot of fun.
In a galaxy far, far away …
Let’s start from the beginning, given that the title of the game itself provides a very important clue: LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga allows users to relive the stories of all films divided into trilogies. You can jump from one story arc to another freely, but on the inside you will still have to follow the narrative strand of the films. The nice thing that you notice right away is that the team has put a lot of care to tell the events of the films, seasoning everything with the classic LEGO humor that has accompanied us over the years. In addition to following the film, the game adds small exploratory phases in some open maps, in which you will find yourself carrying out unreleased side missions (also useful for expanding some aspects of the franchise). Each chapter has a total duration of approximately 5-6 hours if we understand all the various assignments, then we are sure that this kind of not too forced longevity will surely please fans of Star Wars.
Once you have completed the various stories you can return to the single setting to enjoy the exploration and discover hidden gems, but as usual within a LEGO game the real challenge will be finding all the collectibles that are around. Always in the perfect style of the brand (mechanics used in particular in recent years) players will be able to change the character at will, so as to take advantage of particular abilities at specific times. The developers let us know that in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga the playable characters are about 500between the historical ones and those created specifically for the game, but always inspired by the world of the saga.
Use the strength (of the bricks)
Let’s start by saying that, as far as the gameplay, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga it does not differ from what has been done in the past. The real plus is given by the setting and the various situations, the naked and raw game system has remained unchanged for most of the things. Sure, little introductions have been made, but nothing really noteworthy. So the game remains a platformer in which melee attacks, strength, laser guns and all these things considered “the norm” are used. All this is combined with the concept of “rebrick” always present in LEGO titlesor that of tear apart one structure to create another totally different one. Given the size of the areas, the team thought of making several available means of transport which, we’re ready to bet, fans of Star Wars they have always wanted to fly.
So we come to the personagestrue beating heart of the experience: each of them has its own peculiarities ability, it will be up to you to improve and combine them, so that you are always ready for any eventuality. While the addition of some sort of skill progression was appreciated, we don’t understand why they haven’t pushed this feature all the way, given that – after our first glance – it seemed quite limited to us. Although they have focused more on the structure of the experience in general, the feeling is that the gameplay of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga remained neutral enough, perhaps not to confuse old fans too much.
Conclusions on LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
Our proof of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga it really was very pleasant, seen and considered that we had fun from the first to the last minute. The end result can really impress fans, as the whole thing can easily turn out to be a huge encyclopedia dedicated to these nine films. We know that we have to try the game in its full version, but what we have seen is enough to be able to say that we are probably facing one of the most ambitious titles for the LEGO brand. This is not an innovative production in all respectsindeed, it is quite in line with the old products, but to make the whole thing more palatable is the desire to tell the story of the films with extreme fidelity, so that even the new fans of Star Wars can approach one of the most beautiful sagas ever.
