The leader of the PP assures that the president no longer “has a brake” and presents the popular as the “change” on the 40th anniversary of González’s victory
It is no longer even a matter of governability of a “Frankenstein” Executive plagued by “inconsistencies”, but of feeling more comfortable among the “radicals” and “independentists” than with the “constitutionalists.” Alberto Núñez Feijóo attributed to Pedro Sánchez the “personal decision” of blowing up the agreement for the renewal of the Judiciary, due to his weakness for the “radical and independentist” formations. And for having lied, playing all sides with pacts “with those who want to strengthen the Constitution and the rule of law and those who want to weaken it.”
When the earthquake of the rupture of the agreement on the CGPJ continues to sow replicas in national politics, the leader of the opposition sought face to face with Sánchez, presenting him, no longer only as the president of the Government that he prefers for any pact to ERC or EH Bildu, but as an uncontrolled politician, who “has no brake” when it comes to “remaining in power” and who at this point in the film is no longer “willing to admit mistakes or back down.”
“It is not possible to lie to everyone all the time. We suspended the counted due to the evidence that the Government wanted to weaken our institutions”, Feijóo pointed out to his people, during a massive meal in Lugo of the Galician PP, where the leader of the popular ones took pains to explain that the decision to break off the talks It had nothing to do with external or internal pressure, but rather with the realization that Sánchez was playing several bands simultaneously.
«Radicalism and independence»
The rupture – Feijóo insisted – only came about when he confirmed that he was only looking for the PP for a question of parliamentary arithmetic because he was convinced to reduce the penalties for the crime of sedition to please the Catalan republicans. “He was lying to us during the negotiation. He told us that he wanted to protect the rule of law and while with the other hand he unprotected it », pointed out the number 1 of the PP. “Sánchez prefers to agree and agree with radicalism and independence than with constitutionalism,” he settled.
Feijóo said he understood the difficulties of satisfying a “coalition of minority interests” and “various” and in which the partners unequivocally recognize that Spain “doesn’t give a damn.” Moreover, the president of the Popular Party said that he had decided that “it was worth it” to “help a government in decomposition” to avoid further “wearing out Spain” and that for this reason they had “reached out” for several pacts, between them that of the failed renewal of the Judiciary.
But the leader of the PP made it clear that this time of rapprochement seems to have ended after what he presented as a negotiation with several gangs and a true betrayal of the main opposition party. «You cannot agree on the reform of the Penal Code with those who are not willing to comply with the law»; «Sánchez wants to violate the Penal Code to the letter of his partners»; “it is not possible to depoliticize justice and pardon politicians”; “He wants to decriminalize serious crimes against the State to prepare the ground for them to continue doing so; “the Penal Code is not agreed upon with those who commit crimes, but is applied to those who commit crimes”; “Either Sánchez defends the State with all its consequences or hands it over to those who revolted against the State and let them say what is a crime and it is not”…. Feijóo’s attacks made it clear that in a matter of hours the distance between the two leaders has widened more than ever.
End of the truce
Alberto Núñez Feijóo made it clear that there is nothing left of the weak truce of the last two weeks between popular and socialists to bring positions closer in the renewal of the GCPJ after the resignation of Carlos Lesmes. The former president of the Xunta launched all the artillery against the head of the central government, whom he accused of “marketing” with his partners to carry out the general budgets with issues totally unrelated to the accounts of the State, such as the reduction of the sentence for the crime of sedition with ERC, the rapprochement of prisoners with Bildu, or the inclusion of regional teams in international competitions as a nod to the PNV.
And in this context, and on the weekend that the PSOE celebrates the 40th anniversary of Felipe González’s coming to power, Feijóo presented the PP as the “change” that the country expects. A “different majority to govern Spain”, pointed out the president of the popular ones with his sights already set on the general elections within a year.
