The Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) is warning consumers about the increase in the number of scams on Black Friday, which takes place this Friday (24). According to the entity, it is necessary to pay extra attention with very attractive offers, stores on social networks and be careful with cards.
The director of the Febraban Fraud Prevention Committee, Adriano Volpini, highlights that gangs take advantage of the moment of euphoria with the large volume of promotions to carry out scams using “social engineering”, which consists of manipulating the user into providing information. confidential for the theft of personal data.

“At this time of year, approaches from criminals with fake pages that simulate e-commerce; non-existent promotions sent via emails, SMS and WhatsApp messages, and the creation of false profiles that invest in media to appear on social media pages and stories, including false testimonials from buyers”, he warns.
Febraban recommends purchasing, preferably, from known websites and checking the reputation of unknown sites on complaints pages; never use a public computer or that of a stranger to make purchases or enter bank details; carefully check the payment methods offered by the e-commerce and distrust when there are few options.
The entity also advises that consumers should be wary of promotions with prices much lower than the actual value of the product, and of websites that ask people to fill out forms with personal data to access Black Friday promotions.
Another recommendation is the use of virtual cards when purchasing online, and the use of the transaction notification service provided by banks, which informs the amount made for each transaction, instantly. If the consumer is going to make a purchase in person with a card, they should always check the value on the card machine before entering the password.
“If you are paying with Pix, always make the payment within the virtual store environment. When the retailer provides the QR Code, carefully check all the payment details and whether the chosen store is actually the one that will receive the money. Only after this detailed check, make the transfer”, advises Febraban.
