Carlos Sainz has started his 2024 season. The Spaniard is on track in Barcelona with the SF-24 for the first of two days of Pirelli testing: the sole supplier is planning the development of the 2025 tyres. The goal of the Milanese company is to reduce overheating for the last year of a regulatory cycle with 18-inch tires, given that F1's intention is to move to 16 inches from 2026 to help lighten what will be the single-seaters of the new course.
In the afternoon it will be Charles Leclerc's turn and the Monegasque will also continue the development of slick tires since the testing of the new wets has been cancelled. Certainly not due to problems linked to Pirelli: in Spain there is an ongoing severe drought and, rightly, the local authorities have decided that it is necessary to ration water, so the idea of wetting the track was not even considered Montmelò with the tankers as had already been done in the past during collective tests. Pirelli's plans were delayed, but force majeure prevailed over the deadlines that had been set.
Ferrari will take advantage of the track booked by Pirelli to also run an SF-75 on which Oliver Bearman and Arthur Leclerc will alternate, nominated by the Scuderia as development drivers, given that the concomitance of F1 with the WEC will prevent both Antonio Giovinazzi and Robert Shwartzmann, third drivers of the Cavallino, to be operational on the track or on the simulator.
Arthur Leclerc made his F1 debut in the SF-75 this morning. Tomorrow it will be Oliver Bearman's turn, two talents who are growing in the Cavallino Academy.
