FUNDECYT-PCTEX has organized expeditions this year so that Extremadura publicize your innovative projects and position yourself as a reference in sustainability, bioeconomy and digital technology
Extremaduran research strengthens its international collaboration with knowledge expeditions to Germany, Finland, Poland and Belgium, organized by FUNDECYT-PCTEX throughout 2024.
In total, there are four knowledge expeditions in European countries, which have made it easier for companies, research centers and the University of Extremadura to publicize their innovative projects, find strategic partners and position Extremadura as a reference in sustainability, bioeconomy and digital technology.
With knowledge expeditions, FUNDECYT-PCTEX offers a comprehensive service to facilitate the internationalization of Extremaduran R&D and promote the participation of Extremaduran knowledge centers and researchers in the large European calls that finance R&D, such as Horizon Europe.
Thus, companies and organizations such as the Center for Scientific and Technological Research of Extremadura (CICYTEX), the University of Extremadura, the Iberian Center for Research in Energy Storage (CIIAE) or the Technological Institute of Ornamental Rocks and Construction Materials (INTROMAC), among others, they have been able to participate in European events that are key to giving visibility to the science done in Extremadura.
In addition, they contribute to increasing their success in the participation of international consortia and calls to finance research projects.
An example of this is the participation of Extremaduran companies and researchers in various international events and high-level meetings, which have facilitated their interaction with large European R&D networks to address challenges that Extremadura shares with European regions in terms of sustainability, health, water management or renewable energies, among others.
Connection with innovation and European financing
The knowledge expeditions have been carried out throughout 2024 and on several key dates. The first, in the German city of Düsseldorf, was held in February and has allowed companies and entities such as CICYTEX, Fundesalud and the University of Extremadura to identify strategic collaborations in sectors such as digitalization, energy and sustainable agricultureattracting the interest of international partners for future joint initiatives under the Horizon Europe program.
On the other hand, in June an expedition was organized to Seinäjoki, in Finland, where researchers from Extremadura from CICYTEX actively participated in the conference of the Network of European Regions for Innovation in Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ERIAFF), where they learned international practices on resilience and sustainability in the agricultural sector and establishing contact with potential partners for future interregional collaborations.
The third expedition, organized last October, took place in the Polish capital, Warsaw. There, members of the Research and Business Development Support Services of the University of Extremadura, INTROMAC and CIIAE, were able to exchange experiences on bioeconomy and industrial sustainability, reaching agreements with the Polish bioeconomy cluster KlasterBio and the Economic University of Bratislava. in addition to ensuring its participation in international research initiatives such as the BIO4Industry Cluster Initiative.
Finally, a delegation from Extremadura made up of the University of Extremadura and CICYTEX participated in a Horizon Europe workshop to optimize their participation in European innovation projects, aligning their proposals with the EU’s strategic priorities.
The specialized technicians of FUNDECYT-PCTEX offer this type of services through the European Projects Office of the Extremadura System of Science, Technology and Innovation (OPE-SECTI), public and free, which can be accessed through its website .
All these actions are co-financed through the funds of the FEDER Extremadura 2021-2027 Program within the framework of the TE ‘Internationalization of R&D&i’.
