Euro elections | Mika Aaltola is running on the coalition's list

Foreign policy director of the institute Mika Aaltola goes to the European Parliament elections as a coalition candidate. He announced his decision at a press conference on Thursday.

Aaltola said about a week ago that he is applying for a new term at the head of the Foreign Policy Institute, where his first five-year term is coming to an end at the end of this year. Then Aaltola told STTthat he is not running for office in the European elections.

Aaltola was a candidate in this year's presidential election through the voters' association.

Especially at the start of the war in Ukraine, the foreign policy researcher, who was often seen in public, became a candidate from outside politics. He received around 47,500 votes and 1.5 percent support in the first round.

During his election campaign, Aaltola was on leave from his position at the Foreign Policy Institute, but returned as a researcher after the campaign ended.
