A Czech Republic company specializing in virtual reality solutions has announced a new service that aims to preserve, in the metaverse, a realistic user avatar, even after death. The ‘Live Forever’ mode allows users to be ‘reborn’ in the metaverse, with a similar appearance, voice and personality to the deceased person.
The company asks, in order to offer this service, authorization to store a large volume of personal data, such as conversations, movements and facial expressions, in order to be able to create the most faithful representation possible.

The inspiration came to the company’s CEO, Artur Sychov, after having lost his father, victim of cancer, a few years ago. “If I die and I have authorized this data storage, my children can come in and have a conversation with my avatar, see my movements and hear my voice. They will find the person. And, probably in the first ten minutes, they won’t realize that you’re talking to Artificial Intelligence. That’s the goal”, admits Sychov to Vice.
The company is located on the ethereum blockchain and is accessible from virtual reality headsets, with users being able to buy land, build, buy or import houses and other goods, in a “completely transparent and understandable” model, explains Sychov. The objective is to start probing potential interested in the technology as early as next year.
The data storage will start with the sounds and movements of the user within Somnium’s own metaverse and will extend up to about 100 to 300 times what happens when using the smartphone.
Somnium Space also adds that users should not worry about selling their data to advertisers because, unlike other technologies, “we don’t want to know your name. We don’t care about who they are,” says the executive director.
