A 33-year-old Dutchman was arrested on Tuesday at the airport in Tangier, Morocco, on suspicion of involvement in two robberies at two banks in Germany. The man was wanted internationally by Interpol and by Germany.
The German authorities suspect that the man has ties to a criminal network that is active in armed robberies and thieves. For example, he would have stolen an amount of 186,000 euros in a robbery of two bank branches in the German cities of Kist (Bavaria) and Gartringen (Baden-Württemberg).
According to the Moroccan state police, cooperation with the European security forces has led to the arrest of the Dutchman, who had been wanted by the German police for a long time. He is expected to be extradited to Germany in due course, where he will be tried for his alleged crimes.
According to the Moroccan authorities, the man’s arrest is part of the international fight against cross-border crime.
It is not clear what exactly the Dutchman did in Morocco.
