A high presence of the security forces prevented new demonstrations against the government in Cuba.
Washington – The Washington Post writes: “Even if the Cuban regime may present the prevention of the planned march as proof of its strength and the weakness of the freedom movement, the opposite is the case. No, the regime’s opponents have not been able to organize a more organized remake of the sudden street uprising that rocked Cuba on July 11th. But the enormous, costly mobilization that the government needed to prevent it showed, if unintentional, that the sentiments aroused and expressed four months ago are too powerful and widespread to be contained otherwise. This is a catastrophic bankruptcy for a government whose legitimacy is based on its claim to speak not only for the Cuban people, but for the oppressed masses everywhere. ” (dpa)
