This Sunday, Cornellà de Llobregat (Barcelona) praised Estopa’s 25 years of experience. The city’s most international residents have been acclaimed at a tribute event in which a statue dedicated to the duo was unveiled.
The sculpture is on a bench in Plaza Catalunya, where the Muñoz brothers played their first songs when they were teenagers, reports the Catalan News Agency (ACN).
This Sunday’s celebration, under the motto ‘Cornellà sings to Estopa’, featured a choral performance by members of city entities who covered songs by the duo.
Although Estopa was not initially scheduled to perform, José and David could not resist and shared four songs with the more than 4,000 neighbors, friends and family who filled the square and nearby streets.
The history of Estopa is linked to an inseparable blood brotherhood like that of David and José Manuel Muñoz, but also to an inalienable bond with Cornellà. This is how it has been for the last 25 years. Or more, if we take into account the time they invested in composing the songs that they presented back in 1998 to the multinational BMG and that there were so many, and of such talent, that they had to distribute them between the first two albums: Estopa (1999) and Destrangis (2001).
