Jeremy Clarkson is busy on his farm. But is the best man still thinking about a TopGear comeback?
We all know Jeremy Clarkson as the mischievous curly head who used to make TopGear a real pleasure to watch. With his bold statements, Jeremy got the blood under the nails of the car haters. Much to the delight of us petrolheads, of course. The humor that emerged in the collaboration with May and Hammond was also legend. Although certainly in the later seasons, the script sometimes came to the surface a little too clearly.
However, Clarkson’s time at TopGear came to an end when he had an altercation with an employee. Reportedly, Clarkson wanted to have a hot meat (or at least, meat) sandwich. And that didn’t happen or anything like that, after which a hungry Jeremy lowered himself to some pushing and shoving. This event, described as ‘fracas’, was reason for the BBC to dismiss Clarkson. May and Hammond followed out of loyalty.
Since then, TopGear has never really become the old fun again. Chris Harris does his best with a few people that no one understands. But it’s not the same. Matt Leblanc was still okay. But Joey wanted too much money and not too long in England. So that adventure also passed.
Clarkson and co went to Amazon. But although that resulted in some entertaining episodes, the magic was often somewhat gone there too. Too much over the top, too scripted and maybe just not that original feeling of yesteryear. Crazy actually because short YouTube videos show that the chemistry is still there, especially between May and Hammond. Maybe the moment for the show has just passed. Or maybe Jeremy and pals should just present TopGear on the BBC again…
However, going into whether that’s an option at all (with Freddie Flintoff potentially exiting), Clarkson is clear in his own column in The Times. As usual, he torches the left-wing stronghold that is the BBC. In passing, he also deals with ethnic minorities and the LGBTI community. Jeremy calls the latter the BLT+ (bacon, lettuce, tomato) community:
Remember, what everyone on every BBC platform fears more than anything is a Twitter backlash, so to try to keep that festival of left-wing madness happy, they have to be even more left wing and even more right-on. And they have to make sure that every show is pitch-perfect to the BLT+ community and the ethnic minority communities and the community communities, and when you’re thinking defensively like that, the concept of informing and educating and entertaining pretty much goes out of the window.

Jeremy makes no bones about it:
Could I do Top Gear there now? Not a chance.

Whose deed. Shame? Or are you okay with TopGear in its current form?
