Civil Guard agents belonging to the Technological Investigation Team (EDITE) of the Madrid Command, within the framework of ‘Operation Blue Corsair’, They have deactivated the most important pirate football streaming channel in Spain.
As reported by Benemérita in a statement, the body has identified and investigated the perpetrator for an alleged crime related to the market and consumers.
The operation ended with the arrest of a 37-year-old man for the fraud of 42,547,104 euros; the blocking and elimination of all channels of the instant messaging application where the matches were played, as well as the elimination of the programming code used illegitimately.
Through the KODI multimedia player or center, which allows you to organize and play various types of digital media (videos, images and audios) in delayed, online or streaming, the researchers detected that one of the extensions or ‘add on’ created by a developer external to the platform, allowed the viewing of Spanish first and second division soccer matches for free. As described, the investigation focused on finding out the place where the soccer matches were being broadcast.
Following the steps of the source code of the extension or ‘add on’ and after different searches for information, they managed to obtain said place, one of the most used instant messaging platforms in Spain.
Almost 80,000 users
In order to determine the authorship of the events, the investigation began with a focus on the ‘nicknames’ or pseudonyms that appear through the source code within the extension where broadcast paid football content for free to more than 78,000 members.
After downloading the platform extension, it was found that it belonged to a specific user and, after searching the different police bases, the author was completely identified.
