Larry Ten Voorde is the first poleman of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia 2024. This morning, in the qualifying of the inaugural round of the Italian single-brand championship, at the Misano World Circuit the Dutch reigning champion did not miss the opportunity and beat his own record (pole of the ‘October 2023 in 1’35″043) took pole position for tonight’s race 1 at 9.00 pm (live on Dazn also in free mode and on www.carreracupitalia.it) with an astonishing 1’34″757.
The 2024 Carrera Cup Italia therefore begins according to predictions, but two other drivers were able to break down the wall of 35 net, immediately setting out in pursuit of the Enrico Fulgenzi Racing standard-bearer.
Alongside Ten Voorde, Simone Iaquinta will line up in the front row. At the distance, Prima Ghinzani’s driver came out with his usual stubbornness and with a time of 1’34″918 he placed second by less than two tenths in a very tight official practice session as expected.
Excellent debut with the official 911 GT3 Cupè of Team Q8 Hi Perform for Keagan Masters: the 24 year old South African returned to the prestigious single-make series by setting the third time of the morning in 1’34″984 and therefore just 66 thousandths of a second behind Iaquinta.
After the excellent performances shown in tests and free practice, Dinamic Motorsport solidly completed the top-5: rookie Francesco Braschi (also the best among the under 23s in the Scholarship Programme) on his home circuit is fourth, 5 tenths from Ten Voorde (but not improving with the second set of new Michelins), while his teammate Aldo Festante finished fifth in 1’35″405, preceding by a few thousandths Alberto Cerqui (BeDriver) and Lirim Zendeli (Ombra Racing), seventh and second in the Rookie behind Braschi.
The start of Bayley Hall is therefore consistent. The Australian new face of BeDriver will start eighth after finishing qualifying one tenth behind Zendeli, while the expected Gianmarco Quaresmini (Tsunami RT) and Marvin Klein (Target Competition) completed the top-10 lapping 9 tenths behind the poleman.
The French double champion, among other things, finished just one thousandth ahead of his young German teammate Janne Stiak, 11th and in turn ahead of the Dutch Flynt Schuring (Fulgezni Racing) and Diego Bertonelli, only 13th with TDE, more slow compared to the second time he achieved in last night’s free practice.
Even in the Michelin Cup there was no shortage of very close top challenges. And here too it was the reigning champion’s turn to take pole: 20th overall, Alberto De Amics was the fastest in the category in 1’36″505 with the 911 Gt3 Cup of Ebimotors, just a tenth better than Luca Pastorelli, a long in the lead with Dinamic Motorsport.
A lively Gianluca Giorgi (BeDriver) finished third by two tenths, a few hundredths ahead of Paolo Gnemmi (Ebimotors), who in turn preceded Francesco Fenici by just one thousandth, immediately in the top-5 on his first appearance with Raptor Engineering.
