“The government’s insistence on updating cadastral assessments, a reform that effectively amounts to the imposition of a new property tax, is disconcerting.
As Istat data show, 80% of Italians own their own home. Hitting real estate means damaging the middle and lower class of the country considering that the enabling law under discussion affects 39 million people and 66 million properties. Raising taxes on Italians’ traditional safe haven assets, with skyrocketing energy costs and record inflation, while the pandemic is still scary and a new war is raging on the doorstep of Europe, is incomprehensible and surreal. In this regard, as a UGL trade union, we will oppose with all our strength the increase in the tax burden to the detriment of taxpayers. We therefore hope that a compromise solution can be reached for a reform under the banner of equity and social justice, to protect the real estate assets and savings of Italians. ” He stated it Paolo Capone, Secretary General of the UGLon the reform of the land registry.
