US President Joe Biden will hold a meeting of the National Security Council on Sunday, February 20 due to the escalation in eastern Ukraine. This was announced on February 19 by press secretary Jen Psaki on the official website of the White House.
“Tomorrow the president will convene a meeting of the National Security Council on the situation in Ukraine,” she told reporters.
According to her, Biden continues to monitor the situation in the region and his national security team regularly reports to him on developments. Psaki added that aides to the head of the White House confirmed Russia’s readiness to “attack Ukraine at any moment.”
Earlier on Saturday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also said that “all indications are that Russia is planning a full-scale attack on Ukraine.”
On the same day, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said that Ukraine could face the worst-case scenario for a Russian invasion as early as next week. According to the British Foreign Secretary, over the past week, the EU has witnessed “a doubling of disinformation and false flag operations in the Donbass.”
At the same time, the Cuban authorities consider Washington guilty of unleashing propaganda hysteria around the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border. In addition, Cuba opposed the advancement of NATO to the borders of Russia.
On February 16, Estonian intelligence in an official report announced that the Russian “invasion” of Ukraine had been postponed until the end of February. The reason why it did not take place on February 16 was called “the unpreparedness of the Russian army.”
Prior to this, the British tabloids The Sun and the Daily Mirror reported that Russia’s “invasion” of Ukraine was scheduled for Wednesday night. On the morning of February 16, The Sun journalists noted that the night when the Russian attack was supposed to take place passed without incident, and edited their article.
The Daily Mirror newspaper, in turn, published a new article, which says that Russia’s “invasion” of Ukraine did not take place.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova asked “US and British media outlets Bloomberg, The New York Times, The Sun, etc.” to announce a schedule of alleged Russian “invasions” for the coming year.
Western politicians and media representatives continue to spread numerous speculations about possible Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Russian side has repeatedly refuted such statements, emphasizing that it has no plans to invade a neighboring country.
The situation on the line of contact in Donbass escalated on February 17. The DPR and LPR reported heavy shelling by Ukrainian security forces, including with heavy weapons.
