Belarus, Russia’s main ally country, began “anti-terrorist” exercises this Monday (10) in the Brest region, on the border with Ukraine, according to the state news agency Belta.
“From June 10 to 13, 2024, exercises will be carried out in the Brest region to demonstrate the preparedness of government agencies to respond and act in the face of terrorist attacks,” stated the official Belarusian agency.
Units from the State Security Committee, the Ministry of the Interior, the Border Committee, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and other state organizations take part in the maneuvers.
Heavy military equipment will be used during the exercises, which is why restrictions will be imposed on road traffic in the region.
Brest, with an area of 32,700 square kilometers, borders the Ukrainian regions of Volhynia and Rivne.
Since the start of the Kremlin’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine two years ago, Belarus has been a crucial partner of Russia, having already allowed Vladimir Putin’s troops to pass through the approximately 1,000 km of border that the country has with Ukraine. (With EFE Agency)
