At polling stations in Russia, 100% of the votes of residents of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions who voted in a referendum on reunification with the Russian Federation were processed. Thus, 96.75% of the inhabitants of the Kherson region voted for the region’s entry into the Russian Federation. This follows from the preliminary data on Russia published on September 27.
100% of the votes were counted at the polling stations. 32,135 people voted “for” and 792 (2.38%) people “against”.
97.81% of the inhabitants of the region who were currently in the Russian Federation voted for the entry of the Zaporozhye region into the Russian Federation.
In addition, 100% of the votes of the residents of the LPR living in Russia have been processed. 97.93% of those who voted were in favor of reunification.
In the Kherson region itself, according to the first voting results after the processing of protocols, 97.47% of voters made their choice in favor of Russia. In the Zaporozhye region, 87.19% of the population voted for joining the Russian Federation. In the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), this figure was 97.79%. In the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) – 98.05%.
The vote count is currently ongoing.
In particular, the head of the administration of the Zaporozhye region, Yevhen Balitsky, said that the counting of votes would be completed today by 21:00 Moscow time. After the announcement of the results of the referendum, he intends to appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the inclusion of the region into Russia.
Earlier that day, Alexander Safiulin, a correspondent for the Izvestia TV channel, provided footage of the counting of votes in the DPR. They show how the members of the election commission alternately open the ballot boxes where the ballots are located and start counting them.
Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Moscow would support the decision about its future that the majority of the inhabitants of these regions would make.
The referendum on joining Russia started on 23 September. Tuesday, September 27, was the final day of voting.
The referenda are attended by observers from Europe, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Syria and Egypt.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass. The decision was made against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region due to increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
