The Government of Javier Milei announced the dissolution of the General Administration of Ports of Argentina and announced that it will fire 79% of its workers, reported the spokesperson for the Argentine Presidency, Manuel Adorni.
Adorni made the announcement on Friday night through the social network
The spokesperson announced that the General Administration of Ports will become the new National Agency for Ports and Navigation (ANPYN), which will concentrate the functions of the dissolved body and those of others, “thus gaining efficiency and transparency, in addition to achieving lower costs.”
“Entities and areas with identical functions will be eliminated, 79% of staff will be reduced and unnecessary properties and assets will be sold,” Adorni added. He also reported that “the leadership will be removed.”
This announcement by the Argentine Government joins a battery of similar announcements made since Milei came to Government on December 10, 2023 and responds to his plan to shrink the State and reduce public spending to achieve fiscal balance.
As a consequence of these measures, in 2024 more than 34,000 public jobs have been lost in Argentina, the middle class has been dealt a hard blow and poverty has risen above 50%.
“In 2025 we continue with the reduction of public spending,” Adorni wrote in his post after announcing the end of the body in charge of managing Argentine ports.
