Fernando Alonso has successfully passed the facial surgery suffered last week in Switzerland, in Bern, which consisted of the removal of two titanium plates from the jaw. The Spaniard, victim of a bad fall on a bike in February 2021, in fact, had suffered a fracture close to the start of the last world championship – the first since his return to Formula 1 after two sabbaticals – such as to force him to be hospitalized. A little less than a year after that accident, the Alpine rider thus confirmed that he had completed the cycle of interventions following the injury, feeling ready to face the next championship in total fitness.
The 40-year-old from Oviedo, world champion in 2005 and 2006, thus confirmed ad AS the positive outcome of the recent operation, while at the same time focusing on the main objectives of the coming season: “We need a good winter, that’s for sure – commented – and I need to be better prepared than last year; the February bicycle accident didn’t help last season at all. I was operated on last week and was in the hospital for a while. This did not allow me to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual, but now I’m recovering from the operation. After this, I will go to the winter tests with the aim of following a good program, both physically and technically. If the car proves to be competitive – he added – so I’m sure that i will be 100%. It is up to us to make a good car; we will do it and we will learn from our mistakes ”.
