The suspect of a criminal act has stated that the motive for the act was bullying.
In Vantaa The preliminary investigation of the school shooting incident that took place at the Viertola school at the Jokiranta branch on April 2 at nine in the morning is nearing its end in the Itä-Uusimaa police.
In the interrogations during the preliminary investigation, it has been revealed that the suspected perpetrator has said that he had planned the act for two to three weeks.
This is also supported by device searches of IT devices used by the suspect. The searches have revealed the suspect’s interest in websites related to school shootings and similar acts, as well as videos related to weapons and their operation for months.
According to the police, he intended to shoot several children, but the teacher’s actions in the class changed the situation.
“The suspect has arrived at the school in the morning through the toilets, raised a scarf to protect his face and walked to class. In the classroom, the suspect has announced that the bullying is over, after which he has shot three students with a handgun,” the police describe in the release.
The suspect of the criminal act has stated that the motive for the act was bullying, which he has described as name-calling, discrimination and exclusion from the group. The preliminary investigation has not revealed any facts that would support the suspect’s story about bullying.
“Based on the material obtained for the preliminary investigation, there have been a few individual conflict situations years before that have been resolved. The suspect’s own subjective experience of bullying has not necessarily been visible to the outside, says Marko Särkkä, head of the investigation.
