Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), decided this Friday, 7, to extend the investigation of digital militias for another 90 days. The investigation focuses on the performance of organized groups on the internet to spread attacks against democracy.
The dispatch mentions that there are “proceedings in progress”, without specifying which ones. The investigation was opened in July last year and had already been extended four times.
“Considering the need to continue the investigations and the existence of investigations in progress, pursuant to art. 10 of the Criminal Procedure Code, I extend the present investigation for another 90 (ninety) days, from the end of the previous deadline (October 6, 2022), ”, wrote the minister.
The investigation of digital militias was opened from the sharing of material collected in the investigation of antidemocratic acts. The suspicion is that supporters of the president have organized themselves on social media to encourage attacks against democratic institutions. The Federal Police (PF) is also investigating whether the articulation of the Bolsonar base involved public money. President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is among those investigated.
Earlier, Bolsonaro again raised his tone against Moraes and said that the minister is “all the time using the pen to do evil”.
