The Brazilian Association of Banks (ABBC) launched this Monday, 13th, the ABBC Institute for Academic Studies of the Financial System (IEASF/ABBC), to carry out independent research and studies on the National Financial System (SFN). During the launch, the entity, which represents around 120 institutions, reported having closed the first agreement with an educational institution, Ibmec, to carry out the studies.
The launch event was attended by Central Bank directors Otávio Dâmaso (Regulation), Diego Guillen (Economic Policy) and Ailton de Aquino (Supervision).
In a speech, Damaso stated that digital technologies accelerated the transformation of the SFN and promoted inclusion. However, according to him, there is still a lack of studies on financial institutions that analyze from an academic point of view the effects that these changes can cause.
“There is a gap in studies that we need to fill,” stated the BC director.
During his speech, he did not discuss monetary policy, given that the members of the BC board are still in a period of silence following the latest decision by the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom), which reduced the Selic rate by 0.25 percentage points without unanimously.
At the event, the president of ABBC, Sílvia Scorsato, said that consumer demands have changed, the BC’s agenda has stimulated innovation and the system needs to keep up with these trends. “Agents must quickly adapt to trends and demands to stay relevant and take advantage of emerging opportunities,” she said.
