Oxford Economics list includes 1,000 locations; the best placed in the country is São Paulo, in 294th position
No Brazilian city is among the 250 best in the worldaccording to a ranking prepared by the consultancy Oxford Economics. New York (USA), London (England) and San José (USA) top the list. The best placed Brazilian is São Paulo (SP), in 294th position.
The survey considered the 1,000 largest cities in the world responsible for 60% of global GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and with more than 30% of the world’s population. The list includes 29 places in Brazil. Here’s the complete of the study, in English (PDF – 9 MB).
The Oxford Economics analysis also shows that the majority of the best-rated cities are in the so-called “Global North”, mainly in the United States and Europe.
Those with the worst scores are concentrated in Africa and the southern region of Asia, in countries such as India and Pakistan. In South America, the indicators are considered average.

The list was created based on the analysis of 5 categories that consider 27 indicators. Each has a ranking own:

Brazil’s best result is in the environment. Fortaleza (CE) and Natal (RN) are among the top 5 in the category, which takes into account criteria such as air quality and pollutant emission intensity. The country does not stand out in any other category.
