And police officials announced in May that they were looking into the possibility of Johnson, his family and friends being involved in breaching measures to limit gatherings that were imposed to contain the epidemic at Checkers, the summer residence of the prime minister.
Other Downing Street “potential breaches” of the laws the government had ordered the public to follow were also assessed.
But in a joint statement, Thames Valley Police and London Police announced that the events, which are believed to have occurred between June 2020 and May 2021, “do not meet the retrospective criteria for opening an investigation”.
The police had fined Johnson, 59, and more than 120 government officials for holding a series of gatherings in Downing Street during the pandemic.
The disclosure of the organization of these gatherings angered the public and contributed to his stepping down last July, but Johnson insisted that the recent accusations were false.
Recently, a parliamentary committee concluded that Johnson had disrespected Parliament and lied to its members, and had he not resigned, it would have decided to suspend his membership in the House of Commons for a period of 90 days.
The “party scandal” chapters have not yet ended for the Conservative Party, as the London police announced that they were reopening an investigation into a Christmas party held at the party’s headquarters in December 2020.
Footage published by British media showed Conservative Party employees dancing and drinking on one occasion.
The London police also announced that it was also opening an investigation into possible breaches of measures to contain the spread of the Corona virus in Parliament in December 2020.
The police are believed to be referring to an event attended by a Conservative member of the same parliamentary committee that concluded Johnson had repeatedly lied to Parliament in relation to the ‘partying scandal’.
