The breakdown in the electrical network left the campus in darkness this Wednesday and forced classes to be suspended all day
A failure in the campus electrical network left the public university of the Balearic Islands (UIB) in darkness this Wednesday and forced teaching activity to be paralyzed throughout the day. After several hours without being able to restore the supply, the management has decided to suspend all face-to-face classes on campusas well as those that were planned by videoconference at the headquarters in Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera.
The manager of the UIB, María Consolidación Hernández, has assured that the numerous investigations carried out at the UIB, some of which need constant temperatures“could be affected,” although the extent of possible damage to the laboratories is still unknown.
The manager has assured that all technicians are working to find the origin of the fault, which does not affect all buildings equally. «We have emergency generators that are gradually workingbut not with the capacity we would need; some have been able to fall,” Hernández acknowledged.
